How we verify listings
A directory is only worth using if you can tell how much to trust it. So here is exactly what we do, including where we fall short.
Three states, never two
Every fact on this site is one of three things: confirmed yes, confirmed no, or not confirmed. Most directories collapse the third into one of the first two, which is how you end up phoning six practices that stopped taking patients a year ago.
We will never show a practice under a filter we have not confirmed. That means some of our pages are shorter than they could be. We consider that the right trade.
Where the practices come from
The list of practices itself comes from the federal NPI registry, a public dataset maintained by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services covering every licensed provider in the country. That is what lets us list every practice in the Phoenix metro, not only the ones paying to be found.
The registry gives us names, addresses and phone numbers. It does not know whether a practice is taking patients or opens on a Saturday. Nothing public does. That is why those facts have to be asked for one at a time.
How the facts get confirmed
- We read what the practice publishes. A claim on a practice’s own website is recorded as coming from the website, and labelled that way.
- We telephone and ask. A confirmation by phone is the only thing we treat as solid, and the listing says so along with the date.
- We re-check what goes stale. New-patient availability changes without warning, so anything older than 90 days is flagged on the listing as possibly out of date rather than quietly presented as current.
What we do not do
- We do not take payment to change a fact. Placement is for sale; facts are not.
- We do not scrape review sites or booking platforms. Their terms forbid it, and data taken that way cannot be relied on anyway.
- We do not invent ratings, photographs, or prices.
- We do not give dental advice. We are a directory, not a clinician.
Paid placement, stated plainly
Practices can pay to appear above others on filters they already qualify for. Those listings are marked Featured every time they appear. Paying cannot put a practice under a filter it does not meet, and it cannot remove a confirmed fact.
